BearCom typically sends a large contingent to Motorola Solutions' annual Channel Partner Expo (CPE), and this year was no exception, as about 40 of us traveled to Las Vegas for three days of meetings, motivation, and some world-class recognition for BearCom. Some 3,000 people from 800-plus Motorola Solutions dealerships attended this year's CPE, held February 17-19 at the Aria Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. The general sessions on Monday and Tuesday mornings featured keynote speakers, with the afternoons devoted to smaller breakout sessions on a variety of topics, such as business leadership, marketing, public relations, and sales to government agencies, utilities, healthcare providers, and service industries. As usual, BearCom company officials arrived early for meetings Sunday in which top executives reviewed the past year, looked forward to the coming year, and recognized the top performers. In his remarks, BearCom President & CEO Jerry Denham said that BearCom has been officially recognized by Motorola Solutions as its top volume dealer worldwide. "Our success is the aggregate total of our individual personal achievements," Denham noted in his Sunday remarks. "Our achievements are not isolated incidents, but thoughtful, coordinated efforts with all members of the BearCom team. Together, we are the best in our industry. BearCom has the greatest capacity to rent, sell, and service our customers, and we should all be proud of this accomplishment." Denham said that this year, BearCom will focus on, among other things, operational efficiencies, employee development, and maximizing its efforts on the migration to digital technologies. BearCom Chairman John Watson talked about BearCom's vision and the company's priorities, which he said are to:
  • Focus on people
  • Provide relentless customer service
  • Increase speed
  • Drive out costs
  • Continue to grow
There was plenty of motivation to be found in the keynote speeches from former astronaut Mark Kelly and Greg Brown, Motorola Solutions' Chairman & CEO. Both talked about how they were inspired by people close to them—Brown by his mother and Kelly by his wife, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, whose recovery from injuries suffered in a horrific 2011 shooting rampage has inspired many. Motorola officials also discussed plans to help support Team Rubicon, which leverages the skills of military veterans and deploys response teams following emergencies. BearCom has been a supporter of veterans groups in the past, including co-hosting the annual AUSA Wounded Warrior Golf Classic, and is looking forward to see how it too can be of help to Team Rubicon. It was a busy few days, but it certainly helped set the stage for another successful year for BearCom and Motorola.
