One of the most persistent challenges of using two-way radios (walkie-talkies) is moving out of two-way radio range and cutting off your conversation. You can’t fight physics – under specific conditions, radio signals travel in highly specific ways. If you violate these principles, your conversation fades out or ends altogether. Depending on the kind of radio you’re using, your two way radio signal repeater network, the design of your antenna, obstacles, and terrain; a radio signal can travel anywhere from a few hundred feet to several miles. If your workers consistently get cut off because they’re getting too far away, you may be wondering "how can I boost my two way radio signal?" Well, you may benefit from extending the effective range of your radios. To make sure you invest in the right range-extending strategies, it is important to understand the fundamentals of how two-way radios

Last of a three-part series. We all know they’re out there — people who can’t be bothered with getting their two-way radios (walkie-talkies) licensed by the FCC. Even though the product packaging states clearly and explicitly that FCC licenses are required for most two-way radios, people ignore the requirement. Perhaps, if you keep your head down and stay out of trouble, you may be able to use radios unlicensed for years. If your signals are not interfering with anyone else’s, there’s a chance the FCC will never find out. But those are big “ifs.” The truth is, going unlicensed is not worth the risk.
What Can Go Wrong if Your Radios are Unlicensed?
Let’s say you run a small construction firm in your town and you need a few mobile radios in your trucks and half-a-dozen portables for your work crews. If the FCC does not know you’re using these radios,

When Covid-19 swept through the United States in 2020, it brought inadequacies across the nation to light. As schools moved toward a remote learning model, communities without a reliable internet connection were at a disadvantage.
The solution? Improve access to permanent at-home connectivity by providing private LTE and Citizens Broadband Radio Service (or CBRS) for these underserved communities. This technology allows you to:
- Serve the underserved
- Enable smart city applications
- Reduce infrastructure costs
As a voice, video, and data integrator and Motorola’s largest distributor in North America, BearCom is at the forefront of bringing reliable internet access to underserved populations in rural, urban, and tribal communities.

2021 marks BearCom’s 40th anniversary. When the company started, it consisted of two employees and an initial inventory of 40 two-way radios. They specialized in renting two-way radios to small, local events.
Now, forty years later, the business has grown to over 1,000 employees, and it is Motorola’s #1 Channel Partner worldwide.
In fact, BearCom now has over 80 branch locations across the country, all backed by its 92,000-square-foot fulfillment and support center in Dallas. Today, the company is focused on moving forward with the same ambition it showed four decades ago.
As BearCom adapts to stay in front of the latest cutting-edge technology, the team has evolved too. Since February 2019, Bob Craycraft has been the President and CEO of BearCom. His expertise spans industries, but his forward-thinking approach to driving growth and operational efficiencies makes him uniquely qualified to help BearCom continue to grow.
