Fully networked video system adds visibility and safety

January 7, 2014: Dallas, TX—BearCom, a nationwide provider of wireless communications equipment and solutions, today announced it played a vital behind-the-scenes role enhancing public safety when nearly 5,000 citizens and dignitaries gathered in downtown Dallas on Friday, November 22 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Partnering with the Dallas Police Department and other key city agencies, BearCom provided front-line video solutions and technical services, which formed the core of command center surveillance activities during the day. BearCom has a rich track record of success assisting law enforcement, public safety, and security professionals at all levels improve efficiency and effectiveness. The company formed a strong partnership with the Dallas PD back in 2006 when BearCom was selected to deliver a comprehensive wireless video surveillance system covering much of downtown Dallas. That solution has been highly successful to detect, deter, and investigate criminal activity. “As a Dallas-based company, it has been our privilege to serve the Dallas PD with its continued efforts to keep our city safe,” said John Watson, BearCom’s Chairman. “We are proud to have been a part of this historic event and deliver progressive wireless solutions that increased safety for everyone.” As part of a comprehensive strategy to optimize the downtown video system already in place, BearCom set up and integrated five mobile wireless surveillance towers, along with a radio link network that backhauled real-time video feeds to two Dallas PD command center locations. In addition, BearCom staff was entrusted to provide on-site monitoring and technical support services during the event. “When security planning and preparations were initiated last summer, BearCom was included from the beginning as an equal partner,” said Mike Butler, BearCom’s Engineering Program Manager. “It was impressive how thorough and conscientious city officials were to make sure every detail was considered and covered. During the ceremonies, even with the cold and rainy conditions, we had full visibility at all times, and there were no safety incidents.” The Sony SNC-CH160 is the IP video camera at the center of the DPD system. The camera is designed to be outdoor-ready and is known for durability along with reliable day/night functionality driven by built-in infrared illuminators.
