At BearCom, we know all about how two-way radios make large events easier to manage, more enjoyable to attend, and safer for all. We've helped some truly high-profile events with two-way radio rentals. So it's with that experience that we tip our hats today to our partners at Vertex Standard.

Vertex Standard's New Digital Radios

A new case study from Vertex Standard details how its eVerge EVX-531 portable digital radios were used by Red Cross Disaster Relief teams deployed to provide public safety assistance in Washington's National Mall as nearly a million people gathered for President Obama's January inauguration. According to the case study, "Go Team volunteers are positioned strategically within the crowd at major events, like the Inauguration, to monitor well-being and offer assistance." As the case study points out, "The success or failure of such an assignment is highly dependent upon reliable, available, first-rate radio communications. For more than 20 years, Gary Gilham, Coordinator of Operations and Planning, Emergency & International Services for the American Red Cross, has relied on Vertex Standard mobile and portable two-way radios and repeaters." With the Vertex Standard eVerge EVX-531, the Red Cross Go Teams were able to go digital. As the case study mentions, moving to digital technology gave the Red Cross encryption capabilities that added a layer of security to thwart unauthorized monitoring, and it doubled the capacity without adding new frequencies. An unexpected bonus was the superior audio quality right up to the edge of the transmit range. "During the event, the radios performed without any issues, the sound quality was very clear, and they worked well with both analog and digital systems," Gilham told Vertex Standard. In a news release announcing the case study, Vertex Standard said, "eVerge digital radios are designed to provide customers with a new, affordable solution to evolve to better communications—getting the right radio, with the right protocol and right performance—all at a better cost to connect without compromise. eVerge digital radios use TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) for optimum power and spectrum efficiency. Based on the fact that TDMA is compliant to the DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) standard, eVerge digital radios are compatible with more than 74% of the digital radios used worldwide." Way to go, Vertex Standard! And way to go, Red Cross!
