lightning strike behind fieldThere are no loopholes in Murphy’s Law when it comes to two-way radio networks. A construction worker drops a handheld radio, then kicks it down two flights of stairs. Lightning strikes a radio antenna tower and turns a base station into a brick. Just about anything bad that can happen to your radio gear will happen no matter how careful you are. That’s why BearCom has one of the most extensive repair and field-service programs in the United States. Here’s a look at how we keep our customers’ radio networks running at full power: The BearCom Repair Depot We repair roughly 2,500 radios per month through our depot, which is the largest independently run radio-repair facility in the country. Typically, we can turn a repair within 72 hours, and we can fix gear from most major radio manufacturers including Vertex Standard, Icom America and Motorola Solutions. Repairs in the field We’ve seen pretty much everything that weather, industry and quirks of fate can inflict on a radio network in more than three decades in the business. In some cases, it's an environmental issue like a lightning strike or perhaps the aftermath of a natural disaster like a flood, earthquake or hurricane. And sometimes equipment just wears out or breaks down. Whatever the scenario, our field service team can be dispatched to make the appropriate repairs. Some customers choose to buy spare equipment during their initial system implementation, so they’ll have gear they can plug in during a breakdown. Our field technicians will install the spare equipment during their visit to ensure the network stays up. If customers don't have spares, we can provide rentals. We remove the malfunctioning equipment, take it back to the shop and get it repaired, either on our own bench or through the manufacturer. We’ll also install the rentals, and uninstall them when the repairs are finished. Technical training All of our field service technicians go through rigorous training, including certifications on the products they support. They also get industry-standard certification training through ETA, the Electronics Technicians Association International. Overall, we have a staff of more than 100 factory-trained technicians to handle repairs both in the field and at 28 branch offices spread across the United States. Our repair sites are certified to meet the standards of national organizations and individual manufacturers.
