Bearcom extended warrantiesThere’s a force in the universe that we do not truly understand which seems to cause manufactured goods to malfunction at the most inconvenient time after the manufacturer’s warranty expires. That’s why BearCom offers warranties for up to three years beyond the factory warranties. Respected two-way radio manufacturers will pay the cost of repairing defects that crept in on the assembly line, within limits. And no matter how hard these companies try to minimize defects (trust us, they try very hard), some radios malfunction after the warranty period ends. Why should you invest in an extended warranty for your two-way radios? If your company’s radios reside in the “handy to have around” category, you might be able to sneak by without an extended warranty. BearCom’s extended warranties adds about $50 to $80 to the cost of a radio and depending on your situation, that might be more than you want to spend. If, however, your radios are in the “our company fails without them” category, an extended warranty is a smart investment. Most likely you have a large number of radios, repeaters and other gear and you need it all and running to keep your business going at peak efficiency. That also means you have a lot of money invested in your radio network, which inevitably will endure the occasional malfunction. With an extended warranty, you essentially lock in a large chunk of your repair expenses, making it much easier to estimate the “repairs” section your equipment budget. If you saw our fees above and thought, “that’s less than the hourly rate shops charge for repairs,” you’ve got the right idea. You pay a small fee now to avoid a painful one later, just like buying car insurance. What a BearCom extended warranty covers, and what it doesn’t A warranty is designed to pay the costs of repairing defects that happened during manufacturing. An extended warranty merely expands the time frame of coverage. You pay for BearCom’s extended warranty when you order the equipment; coverage kicks in when the manufacturer’s warranty expires. What has to happen for a radio to fall under extended warranty coverage? Basically, the equipment covered by the warranty has to fail to perform in accordance with the published specifications in effect when you bought it. In addition to repairing your radios, our warranty provides:
  • Testing and restoring the equipment to manufacturer’s factory settings.
  • Reprogramming equipment to original operating parameters based on your template or a backup diskette if you can provide one.
  • Cleaning of external housing of the equipment.
BearCom also pays inbound shipping charges if you use our designated delivery service; we also pay return shipping. As with most warranties, ours do not cover defects, malfunctions, failures or damages resulting from:
  • Using the equipment in other than its normal and customary manner
  • Misuse, vandalism, accident, acts of God, or neglect
  • Defects or damage due to physical, chemical, or liquid damage
  • Improper disassembly, testing, operation, maintenance, installation, modification, adjustment, alteration or repair
Extended warranties are not available on all products Some products are impractical to repair, so they are excluded from our extended warranty coverage. A few examples:
  • Portable remote speaker microphones
  • Mobile external speakers
  • Portable chargers
  • Mobile antennas, including power and antenna cables
One final tip: a warranty is a legal document describing a company’s obligations and liabilities and should be reviewed by your legal team when you’re ordering new equipment. Under certain circumstances, you may be able to negotiate amendments that are specific to your business. For instance, you might be able to negotiate a warranty against damage to your radios for an extra fee. Want to learn more? Read the BearCom Extended Warranties brochure.
