Noc primary Companies and organizations that use high-tech, digital two-way radio (walkie-talkie) networks can’t afford to let communications equipment failures threaten their mission goals. That’s why BearCom is launching a new Network Operations Center (NOC), which scans enterprise two-way radio infrastructure for any hints of potential malfunctions.   “To protect and optimize their communications investment, the BearCom NOC is vital to companies with two-way radio systems,” said BearCom President and CEO Jerry Denham. “With the NOC, our technicians identify issues early and then enable solutions before problems escalate, and often before they ever impact users.”

Addressing the threat of equipment breakdowns

When you think about the risks of radio failure, the first thing that springs to mind is a worker dropping a handheld unit onto hard pavement and knocking it out of commission. But that only removes one radio, which is relatively easy to replace.   The greater risks lie in the network infrastructure; including repeaters and bi-directional amplifiers that keep everybody communicating in real time. Losing a single repeater could leave dozens of workers off the communications grid, which is bad enough during normal operations, but what if there is an emergency and a key work team is out of contact? BearCom’s NOC, which delivers around-the-clock monitoring for MOTOTRBO digital communications equipment from Motorola Solutions, keeps track of key infrastructure components and provides alerts when service is needed. The NOC monitoring software is designed to identify performance degradation issues and alert technicians early so they can resolve the problem.

Benefits and value

Customers who use the NOC, put BearCom’s wireless expertise to work for their organization with our staff on call interpreting alerts and reacting to anomalies. Shifting that responsibility to BearCom frees up their own IT and telecommunications team to focus on other important initiatives. Plus, the NOC provides system reports and scorecards showing peak loads and usage patterns which can significantly benefit day-to-day operations.

Monitoring important radio network operations statistics

“The NOC allows us to collect important operating metrics, including repeater health, network latency, channel efficiencies and call load,” said Ian Torok, director of technical services at BearCom. Furthermore, tracking the usage patterns and locations of workers carrying radios can reveal insights that can be used to improve communications efficiency, which can increase productivity and safety.

Lessons learned from radio rentals

“We know this technology provides proven value because BearCom has been using the NOC for years to support our rental customers,” Torok said. “Large event organizers typically use several hundred radios at a time, and the BearCom NOC is used during set-up and at the event to monitor infrastructure equipment and call loads.”

The security behind the NOC

To ease customer concerns about security, the BearCom NOC offers the most up-to-date intrusion-proof protections possible. With state-of-the-art technology and a dedicated VPN on each customer’s site, there is no access point for malware or hackers to slip into IT data networks.   As part of BearCom’s Advanced Technology Solutions, the NOC can be bundled into existing service level agreements and/or preventive maintenance services.   See more details about the BearCom NOC.
